Birth of his first child Irina, our mother to be. (12 March 1916 – after conversion to the Julian calendar).
He voluntarily joins the regular army as a gunman.
He is injured during the civil war in the South of Russia (Ukraine). |

On health leave in Ukraine at Barwienkowo
Evacuation abroad, his wife Augusta refuses to follow him and wishes to remain in Russia. |

17 / 30 January 1921 |
Posing as a stretcher-bearer, he is evacuated with the care unit.
He works in a hospital on the island of Halki, (Greek island close to Rhodes island), where he fulfils diverse functions: doctor, nurse, cook, confident…
He hopes to get a Polish passport and go to Crimea.

We find him in Bulgaria along a lake. He created a fishing association which did not turn out as he anticipated. He weeds vineyards and loads wood on waggons. |

He is now in Sindiel (Bulgaria), the fishing association does no longer exist. He wishes to buy a gun to hunt (and especially to get food).
He works as a teacher whenever he finds the time for it and studies law. He is thirty five years old. |

His daughter who is now 5 years old, his wife, and the whole Kalitowicz family are in Bakhmuth (Ukraine). Irina does not really know her father. |

He goes to Varna (Bulgaria). He looks for shoes for himself, visits the Polish Consul in Sofia, Bulgaria. He then goes to Sindiel. |

His letters are a testimony of the difficulties he is facing. He still works in the vineyards and loads trunks of trees on trains. |

He visits the Russo-Bulgarian Committee. The borders are shut. He hopes to be able to leave in the next coming days. |

His brother-in-law Volodia Potemkin proposes that he moves to France to work. |

He is seriously thinking about moving to Paris. |

He is in Burgas (Bulgaria), his trip to Paris is cancelled and is no longer a pending matter. He receives a job offer from Poland. He is waiting for his visa from Sofia. |

He is now in Sofia in Bulgaria, as specified in his letter. |

Warsaw! He is now in Warsaw. In his letter of December the 27th he lives at Solec 22, Flat 2. He is now a recognized and certified Polish citizen.
He hopes that his wife Goutia (Augusta) and his daughter Irina will come to live with him. They were living with Marie Potemkin in Bakhmut in Ukraine.
In Warsaw he works as a magistrate for the Ministry of Finances.
He is jurist, magistrate, counsellor and principal private secretary at the Ministry of Finances (tax department) in Warsaw, Poland.

Death of his mother Kornelia Sawicka, in Bakhmut, (Ukraine) he is 38 years old. |

His sister Vera has a gall bladder operation.
Still alone in Warsaw, traceability through the letters sent to the Potemkin family members with whom he has a close relationship. |

He is waiting for an important financial gratification from his Ministry.
On this occasion he receives official honors from the Prime Minister.
He launches the project to fund five trading posts in Bulgaria: Bourgas, Varna, Rudtchoux, Plavid and Sofia. He wants his brother in law Nicolas Potemkin who is still in Bulgaria to be associated to the project..
Irina has got measles. Augusta promises to come with Irina within a month. |

His wife and daughter are in Warsaw. They leave him to go to Paris, Augusta’s decision is categorical. Edward sets himself the task to do business in Bulgaria. |

Edward Kalitowicz lives at 27 Hoza street in Warsaw.
He lodges a request at the tribunal for the annulment of his marriage. |

Annulment of his marriage with Augusta Potemkin (by the Vatican). |

He marries Kasimira Antczak, his second wife. |

8 May 1929 |
Birth of Stanislawa Maria, his first daughter with his second wife. |

20 April 1930 |
He wishes to help his daughter Irina who wants to become a nurse.
He is feeling ill and hopes to have enough time to sort out his business in order to protect his family. He has founded the zoo in Warsaw and is the curator. He had a house built for girl scouting, a very big hospital for children and is the president of the Society against Tuberculosis. He has also contributed to the construction of the church in his suburb (Zolibor). Sadly, this church will become famous many years later as the priest, Father Popielusko, was thrown in the Vistula. He is one of the committee members who founded a Polish retirement house in Varna. (Bulgaria). |

He pursues his project and in collaboration with the Director of the Urban Union in Bulgaria he plans to create a trade exchange association with Bulgaria. He is worried about his health and worldwide events! |

Birth of his second child, Marc, with his second wife. |

Irina comes on her own to be with her father.
Ten days later….. |

He dies in Warsaw from a heart attack, he was 48 years old and his daughter Irina had just arrived a few days earlier in Warsaw.
He had 3 children. |

The Kalitowicz and Potemkin families were very close.
He loved hunting... A painting shows him in a hunting situation.
(This painting is now in the family’s home in Warsaw. After having received it as a present, Irina gave it back to the Kalitowicz so that it can remain in her father’s house. This house is part of a residential block which he had had built. The building was requisitioned, was for some time the office of an African Embassy (Zaire) and was eventually returned to his descendants after the departure of the Russians. |

For the record: one of our Kalitowicz ancestors took part in the Polish uprising against the Russians in January 1863 and got his nobility title and lands removed and was deported to Russia. |
